Funny Onion

Funny Onion is a theatre company that seeks to promote and nurture new and emerging creative talent - writers, composers, musicians, directors, designers, performers, stage managers, technicians and administrators.

Experience is a valuable commodity – tough to acquire but easy to trade when you have it – and we aim to group experienced creative practitioners with those who are just starting out in order that everyone might benefit from both the wisdom of the established and the innovation of the unseasoned.

Through these associations we will produce seamless theatre that is accessible to real people of all ages. We will use existing and found spaces to immerse our audiences in complete and detailed worlds.

Funny Onion likes...

Funny Onion likes really good stories and storytellers.

Funny Onion likes theatre for the small and the tall. We like one person speaking alone and we also like many singing and dancing. We enjoy watching you, watching us.

Funny Onion practices escapism. We are unexpected and fascinating. We eavesdrop and peer through keyholes.

Funny Onion would like to give you beauty, magic, excitement and pause for thought, and theatre that makes you interested.

Funny Onion likes not making assumptions about who you are and what you will enjoy.

What Funny Onion believes

Funny Onion believes that high quality doesn’t mean highbrow and that we can also be simple without being basic.

Funny Onion believes that big things come from small, but intricate, packages and we believe that it’s all in the detail.

Funny Onion believes in theatre that makes you stop, makes you look, draws you in and lets you peel back the layers and peep inside.

Funny Onion believes in chance, and opportunities and faith, in trip-ups and leg-ups and back-ups and in nurturing talent.

Funny Onion believes we’re going to rather like each other.
